We believe the foundation for effective transition is awareness, adjustment and mutual trust.

The transition challenge:

Multinational businesses in China hire more local leaders.

72% of Danish companies in China expects to increase their local investment and staff by minimum 10% by 2025.

The newly recruited leaders will likely feel unprepared.

Only 6% of Chinese business leaders had global experience before taking on their role in a multinational company.

Many will go through a long transition time.

Multinational businesses should expect that Chinese employees need relatively more coaching and practice time.

Story behind Transition State

Transition State is a boutique consulting firm founded by Yasmin in 2020. During her time previously working at multinational companies in China, Yasmin experienced the companies had difficulties finding local talents with global experiences for leadership positions in China. It created a gap, and unless the companies stayed hands-on, it was difficult to avoid a prolonged adjustment time, for both the leaders as well as teams across the organization. Yasmin wanted to bridge the gap between Chinese and Western leaders, with the vision that faster transition would help organizations create higher value and more employee engagement. Our goal is to help leaders can get up to speed faster, by having access to hands-on support throughout the journey.

Our guiding principles:

Awareness

For us, awareness is the starting point of any transition. Awareness for the individual capabilities a leader can rely on, and capabilities that need to be developed. Awareness for organizational capabilities to be leveraged on, and those a leader need to encourage at the organizational level.

Adjustment

Transition happens when actions are taken. Each individual can decide to learn, to outline any changes to be made, build the necessary support network and develop the behavior. Every action create some impact, an inevitable effect on both people and organization.

Trust

Trust can provide meaning and motivation. It can be an engine to the transition journey. We think trust begins with the consensual understanding of a common mission, enhanced by clearly aligned goals and enriched by the sense that our actions fit into the bigger picture.
